I want my pieces to bring on that visceral feeling I get when I find bones in the woods, shells washed up on the beach, or see living creatures’ kaleidoscopic sculptural forms as they move through the world. I aspire to infuse my pieces with the fascinating and beautiful qualities that real creatures and the artifacts they leave behind possess. Many of my pieces are made out of a templates cut from a rolled slab. Clay has to be soft enough to fold or drape when making these pieces. The weight and momentum of it mimics flesh over bone, making it the perfect medium for capturing the essence of living forms.
